Healing the Hole in Your Heart

This is a book that I wrote. I am putting it on here because I think if someone is meant to read it, then it should be here for them to read. Blessings.

This book is dedicated to my Savior Jesus Christ
and to all the people in my family.
I love them and they are whom I most want to spend eternity with.
I would like to make a special mention
of my Grammie and Nanna, who are precious to me.

Unfillable is not a real word in the dictionary, but I think it should be. Since this is my book I am using it anyway and hope that the simplicity of it’s meaning is apparent. Un-fill-a-ble: Verb 1. Unusable space. 2. Unable to contain contents wish to be stored in something.

From the Beginning

Train up a child the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.                                                   Proverbs 22:6
Many lifetimes ago…
People forgot how to train up a child’s heart to handle the losses of life.  We fill their hearts with only the things they can lose.  And when we are those children it is us with hearts full of loss. Since then we have continued down a path that leads to destruction until someday all we are is the hole in our hearts.  It began happening so long ago in human history that we cannot pass the blame on those before us, as much as we must take personal accountability to seek and correct this mistake.

We start out with the empty shell…
We are born with a virtually empty and fill-able heart.  Immediately those who shape our lives start filling our hearts with what will be important to us for our entire lives.  We will store in there what is valuable, what is painful, who matters, and even who doesn’t.

What is Your Heart Full of…

With What Is Your Heart Filled?
At some point many of us feel like we have a full heart.  For some it comes quite young through a loving family and positive experiences.  For others their struggles begin early in life and even though their hearts get filled it is with things that are negative.

For most we learn to love people.  Our family, our friends; good or bad, and make them a big part of the filling of our heart.  To that we add things that we treasure.  Objects, moments, feelings, actions, habits…Each area grows to fill the spaces that are available. Not all of that has to be positive.  There are many who have full hearts, but they are full of hate.  Either way it is the same if it is missing the foundation.  And one day each will develop holes…

Determining Your purpose…
Humanity was created with purpose. And it is the very things that are tied to our heart that become the main focus, or purpose, of our life.  Many time with our true purpose buried we focus on what we know.  We are children, spouses, parents, grandparents.  We are defined by our occupation, hobbies, involvements.
We even define ourselves by the material things that we have deemed heart worthy.  And all of that is not bad.  But when those things become the foundation we are building on, our foundation is perishable and will pass away.

Getting by on What you Got…
Though we suffer losses we are constantly filling those spaces again, in all those areas, with what we were trained to fill our hearts with.

We lose a sweetheart, we find another…
We lose a job, we get another…
We lose possessions, we get more…
We lose beliefs, we gain others…

Those are the easier ones to fill.  Still even the hard ones we manage to fill if we can.

We lose a person; spouse, child, friend…we marry another... we have more… we find another…

We are patching holes.  However, the patches are no better than what the original area was made up of.  Eventually we run out of patches...

                                           The Unfillable Holes
Realizing the Brokeness

The unfillable holes…
Nevertheless, for those who have not been given the proper foundation they soon find there will be holes that appear as the irreplaceable things start to disappear and the imperfect filling disappoints.
Some of those may be things that were listed in the patchable section, but they  were not patchable for you.

Others include:
· You lose your parents…
· Your adult child…
· Your freedom, due to disease, injury, or age.
· Your stuff loses value to you because you just don’t care anymore or you are helpless to prevent others from taking it away.
· Maybe you are losing everything because you found out you have dementia, and will someday remember nothing, and all those things that filled your heart will have no meaning…

It can all feel scary and sad….
But what was missing from the start can repair what has fallen apart.

 Starting over
A Hearts Second Chance

And you shall love The LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might..  And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart;  And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.    Deuteronomy 6:5-7

The part people forgot…
When life first started the thing that was suppose to first fill our hearts was a love for God and from God.  Unbelievably, that love actually fills the whole thing up.  Then what happens is all those other areas that had meaning before are an overflowing of your heart.  At times, the overflow may be less or more, but the foundation keeps your heart full.  When we do not start out that way, when we come from generations that forgot God was the foundation and that God is love, we have to learn it later.  By God directing you to Him through those who know Him or maybe through His written word.

Why you’re here…
You are here, right now, reading this because someone knows you have holes in your heart.  They see your pain, they know the ache.  They wanted to tell you how to find your way, but they just didn’t know how.  Then God put this on their heart and finally they understood themselves and knew they had to share with you because they love you out of the overflow of their heart.

And they know it is not too Late…

What should be There

Where’s the Stuffing…
Maybe you have heard of the bible, maybe you haven’t.  Maybe you have read some other “spiritual writings.”  You may even believe in God, or a god, or a higher power.  All of that is actually your very spirit, the heart of your soul, reaching out to find what was meant to fulfill it in the first place.  Often the more holes you have the harder you search for meaning and the “big picture.”
The interesting part is how people have actually made it harder to find God than God ever intended it to be.  Simply, God is love and that is what He intended you to start with. To be loved and to love

What’s In the Stuff…
God has a history.  Parts of it are written down so that we can see that people have been making the same mistakes since the beginning.  In these writings, God also gives us the answer to our greatest desire.  To have a heart filled with love that never leaves and unending purpose that will never disappear.  In God’s writing this is revealed closer to the end of the book.  Really the last third.  The book is the Bible; God’s Word.
  The Healed Heart
What Does Whole Look Like

Search and you will find…
After showing people that we do not have, nor were we created to have, a life apart from God, then He shows us that He has made a way for us to again have a relationship with Him.
He knows we are not even close to perfect.  We screw up, we are born with a sin nature because humanity decided in the beginning it did not need to love God to live.  A crazy part that humanity is missing out on is the fact that He, God, still loves us.  He created us.  And all He wants is a restoration of your heart and the relationship He had with humanity in the beginning.   So God sent His son Jesus to earth to teach us how to restore our relationship with Him,  filling our hearts with God’s love, and having an eternal purpose to our lives.  That means purpose forever.

There are many more details that I want you to know, to hear, to see.  But all of that will come later. Either you will learn it on this earth from God’s written word, people who have known Him longer than you, or by meeting the Maker Himself.
My job is to give you the answer so that when you meet God you will be in a right relationship with Him and be fulfilling your eternal purpose.  Sounds big huh?  However, it is really simple.
Your created purpose is to love God first.  Your purpose is to overflow that love in your life.  It is permanent.  It is not dependent on anything that will pass away or be destroyed.

 The Answer

Knock and the door will be opened…
The answer is accepting Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as your personal Savior.  Realizing, and accepting, that God sent Jesus to this earth to live a sinless life and teach humanity of God’s love.  He died willingly to take on our sins and then was raised from the dead three days later.  He was taken to heaven alive.  He now sits at the right hand of God, the Father, and has become our way to God.

When you invite Him into your heart, you are filled with God’s love and eternal purpose.  It is really that simple.  God doesn’t expect you to be good enough to begin with or He would not have had to go to the extreme that He did to restore this relationship with you and the rest of humanity.  Here is what it says in the Bible:

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with
your heart that you believe and are justified,
and it is with your mouth that you profess your
faith and are saved.  Romans 10:9-10

Please take a moment to consider all that I have said.  All that your loved one wanted you to hear. And if you want to have that filled to overflowing heart and eternal purpose please pray this prayer.

Dear God in heaven,
I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner and I ask for, and need, your forgiveness.
I believe in the Bible, that it is Your Holy Word, and that You say You want to have a relationship with me .  Thank you for Jesus.  That You made a way for Him to take away my sin and fill my heart with Your love.  I want Jesus to be my Savior.  Thank you for my place in eternity.
In Jesus Name, Amen

When Will I feel the Difference?
What is Different

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2

I still feel the old hurts and holes…
There are people that experience dramatic and instant change.  We do not know what God’s purpose is for the process we will each personally go through.  You are changed the second you surrender your life to Jesus, but to feel it sometimes means letting go of things we are holding onto too tightly. Sometimes it is just the phantom pains because we haven’t started accepting the love God is trying to fill us with.  Everyone still feels the pain of loss, disappointment, and longing that comes from sorrow, but we have a stronger love in our heart now to help us carry on.  Praying the prayer and opening your heart is the beautiful start of an eternal life.  It doesn’t matter what stage in human life you are.  But it does matter that you start to get to know the God who loves you and has now saved you.

Included at the end of this book are some important bible passages that will help your heart to heal and will help you to get to know Our God.  Even though they are printed out, you should find them in a bible.  If you don’t have one, get one.  Read other parts of the bible too. Your journey is just beginning, but remember the bible is a whole story filled with the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Good News is that God made a way when we could not make one for ourselves and you have taken the step from an incomplete heart to a heart filled with eternal purpose.  From that you can love all those you have loved, and more.  You can find joy that you felt you had lost, or have never had.  And you have a future that is bright, whether you live one more second or many years to come.  I have faith that God is healing the hole in your heart.

 Bible Passages

Why go to Heaven
Revelation 21:3-4
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

God Comes First
Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Your Living Hope
1 Peter 1:3-9
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”

You are saved by Faith
Ephesians 2:8-9
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."

You are Forgiven of all your sins
1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"

You're not perfect, just forgiven
Romans 8:1
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..."

You are a New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come!"

You have the promise of Eternal Life
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life"

1 John 5:11-13
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.  I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Forgive Others as God Forgives You
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

You need to read the Bible daily
As you study God’s written word on your own start with the Gospel of John, which tells the story of how Jesus saved you.

Jesus Confirms you have to be Born again (Giving your heart to God)
John 3:3-6
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water [ human birth] and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

You have a new heart
Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
